Juneberry, Saskatoon Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) is a large, multi-stemmed shrub that can also be trained into a small tree. Native to Indiana, it is extremely adaptable and will grow under a wide range of climatic conditions. Juneberries will grow to a height of 18 to 20 feet. They are very cold-hardy and will tolerate temperatures down to at least -20°c. The plants tolerate a wide pH range and will also grow well in heavy clay soils. Water needs are minimal. Although fruit production is best when grown in full sun, partial shade is also tolerated. Prune regularly. Flowers and fruit develop on previous years' growth and pruning results in vigorous new growth for the next years' bloom and fruit.
